Last Night at Grand Island.

Wednsday 4th February saw the band play their farewell concert to the Grand Island Hotel, which has been host to the band's annual subscription concert for nearly all of the last 25 years. A capacity crowd heard the band play just a small part of its large repertoire, including Dem Bones (featuring 6 of the current 7 trombone section), Can't take My Eyes of You, Buglers Holiday(with 3 of the most talented young cornet players on the Isle of Man), Theo Leach (Eb Bass) delighted the audience with Wandring Star and of course who could forget Instant Concert where the band very nearly beat Robert (MD) to the end! Robert also took up his cornet to play Spanish Eyes.
During the concert Eugene Lantry presented the band with a cheque from St Maughold Lodge of Freemasons. Over the years the lodge has been a regular supporter the band who always pop in and play carols at the end of the Lodge's Christmas Festive Board meal.
A wonderful concert was followed by at Disco featuring the band's 1st Trombone Alex Brindly doing his day job of DJ. (Sorry Radio Presenter). The theme of the disco was 'wear your wedding dress if it still fits, or similar'. Hence the very varied styles of dress.
The Band would like to thank the management and staff of the Grand Island Hotel for their support over the last quarter century. The hotel is sadly closing and Ramsey Town Band will struggle to find a replacement venue in the north of the Island capable of hosting a full brass band plus audience of 300 plus.
