Ramsey Town Band’s much-awaited Subscription Concert was another enjoyable and resounding success with a maximum audience of 250 at the Grand Hotel.

The full programme is attached below, but particular highlights included virtuoso Ian Porthouse’s “ Carnival of Venice “ on cornet, “ C’est si Bon “ on flugel and the exciting “Magic Flute “ excerpt on piccolo trumpet.

The dramatic “ Dragons Rise “ , opening the second half, was the main workshop piece , and Ian’s intensive coaching of the band clearly paid dividends as shown by its enthusiastic reception by the audience.

Also appreciated was the little suite of 3 Manx folk tunes arranged by our Musical Director Robert Quane . Included in the programme too was “ Little Red Bird “ , a Goff Richards arrangement of another Manx tune , solo by Jade Leach.

Shirley Clucas was the soloist on “ An Untold Story “.

The Jack and Joan Morris Trophy for most improved Juniors was awarded jointly to Martin Kennish (BBb bass ) and Mark Turner ( Drums ).

A rousing “ St Louis Blues March “ concluded an exceptional evening’s entertainment and many thanks are due to all those who contributed to its success.
